Cumbria YFC Walling Competition

The young farmers of Cumbria YFC gathered at Low Beckside Farm, Mungrisdale to take part in the county final of their walling competition. The Ernest Cook Trust kindly hosted the competition and provided the competitors and judges with lunch on the day which was greatly appreciated.

 

Seven eager teams of two competitors, aged 21 years and under and 28 years and under were tasked with taking down and re-building a 1.5 metres long section of dry-stone wall in the local style, within the allotted time frame of 3 hours.  Judges Mr Steve Allan and Mr Peter Gibson were pleased to share their knowledge and skills with the competitors and after a great day of walling the results were as follows:

 

1st: Crook Will Black and Lewis Hodgson

2nd: Grayrigg: John Handley and Zac Baines

3rd: Eden Valley B: Hector 

4th: Sedbergh A: Zara and Edward Wilson

The top 3 teams now go forward to compete at the Northern Area Field Day, hosted by Cumbria YFC at Low Beckside Farm, by kind permission of the Ernest Cook Trust on Saturday 14th June 2025.
