Cumbria YFC 24 Hour Dance - a - thon

Dec 3, 2024  •  Club Fundraising

From 6pm on Friday 18th October to 6pm Saturday 19th of October, the young farmers of Cumbria YFC took part in a 24 hour danceathon challenge to raise funds for Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and Cumbria YFC. Both charities give invaluable support and services within Cumbria as a county.

Jigsaw provides day to day care, support and activities to children and young people from across the county living with a life limiting illness. Their care is provided in a home from home setting and each young person’s care is personalised towards their own needs. The whole team at Jigsaw provide an incredible level of care and with one look at their website it is clear the incredible work they provide for children and young adults in our community.

Cumbria YFC is one of the largest young farmer clubs in the country with almost 1500 members aged 10 – 28 years. A member led charity, it provides its young farmers with a whole host of fantastic opportunities, from making life-long friends, learning new skills, taking part in competitions and accessing training through to worldwide travel opportunities and becoming an active part of the local community.

Members and young farmer clubs from throughout the county signed up for dance slots throughout the 24 hours and were joined and supported by past members and district and county officers who enjoyed dancing to a whole selection of music from 80s floor fillers through to classic rock and the more contemporary offerings of Taylor Swift.

Cumbria YFC County Chair Charlotte Wilson, the organiser of the danceathon said

“It was an excellent event with nearly 100 members and advisory from around the county taking part. All ages having fun and socialising really encapsulated the young farmer community. It made me extremely proud to be Chair of such a committed and supportive movement”

The event was sponsored by Armstrong Watson, AW Jenkinson, Frame and Swift, Paragon Veterinary Group and Tethera Veterinary Services and a discounted breakfast for the Saturday morning dancers was supplied by Cranstons.

Donations are still coming in, but as of Monday, £2500 had been raised and will be shared between both charities.

Eleanor Viney, Fundraising Manager for Jigsaw said “We are so grateful to Charlotte, and all the young farmers who gave up their time to take part in the weekend’s Danceathon and raise much needed funds to support local families throughout Cumbria.  It is people like Charlotte doing fantastic challenges like this that ensure Jigsaw can continue to care for children and young people with additional and life-limiting needs now, and into the future.”
